1897 Rueben Woods Antique Fishing Tackle Catalog
In this old fishing lure gallery you will see a original 1897 Rueben woods
Antique Fishing Tackle Catalog from Syracuse Ny.
While the catalog is much larger than shown and carries a vast array of
products, more than old fishing lures and reels in this gallery Ill stick to
those two products.
The Reuben Woods catalog is a good representation of a general merchandising
catalog devoted to the sporting goods and antique fishing tackle world. Companies would
sell products to the trade houses in several variations, which in turn can make
it difficult to detect who's piece is made by whom unless its very distinctive
in the art plate.
These places would sell the lures and reels in either unmarked versions, marked with the
true makers names or marked with a line which is distinctively know to be the
clearing house or a general line which all trade houses would sell them under.
Some of the lures shown below are Chapman, Loftie, Pflueger, Mann, McHarg,
Wakeman and many more.
While I've tried to annotate what I feel are some of the fishing lure or reel
origins, I may be incorrect as multiple old fishing lure and old fishing reel
makers made similar lines.
